The General Counsel will serve as the chief legal officer for a private equity-backed behavioral health platform, leading the development of the company’s legal function and advising executive leadership, the board, and investors on strategic and operational legal matters. This role is responsible for overseeing regulatory compliance, employment law, litigation management, corporate governance, and legal support for growth initiatives, including acquisitions and facility integration.
Key responsibilities include advising on multi-state behavioral health regulations, licensing, accreditation standards, Medicaid/Medicare requirements, HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 compliance, and employment matters affecting a 2,000-employee workforce. The General Counsel will manage outside counsel relationships, oversee litigation and risk mitigation strategies, draft and negotiate commercial and employment agreements, and provide legal guidance related to mergers and acquisitions, governance, and investor reporting.
Qualified candidates must possess a J.D. from an accredited law school, active bar membership, and at least eight years of legal experience with substantial healthcare and in-house exposure. Strong knowledge of healthcare regulatory frameworks, labor and employment law, litigation management, and private equity-backed environments is required. Behavioral health, HIPAA, and M&A experience are strongly preferred. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, strategic leader who thrives in high-growth, complex, and highly regulated environments.
